Originally a Chinese-Language house in the early 70s known as the Golden Harvest, the theatre was a popular destination for watching authentic kung-fu movies. After a mulit-million dollar renovation, the Imperial is now one of the coolest boutique theatres and private event venues in the city, maybe even the country.

Modeled after the Electric Cinema, a multi-purpose venue in London, the theatre’s current incarnation is a cross between your typical art-house screening room and a high-end steak house. Miniature replicas of Qin Dynasty Terracotta warriors line a shelf encircling the bar’s counter: a tasteful touch of chinoiserie that acknowledges the venue’s past. Tiled sinks in the washrooms, live koi fish in our lounge aquarium and two fully functioning bars are only a few of our allures. A successful marriage between the old and the new has set the foundation for another page in the venue’s storied life. | |
